5/24/2023 0 Comments Stanley christmas adventure![]() ![]() I recommend this for boys and girls in 1st through 3rd grade. If you like adventure books, this is for you. I think Stanley and I were both scared when we went on our adventures to different places. I had never been there before and I was nervous. ![]() This story reminds me of the first time I went to Wildwood, NJ because that was kind of an adventure for me. This is also like the other Flat Stanley books by Jeff Brown because Stanley is always flat and goes to exciting places. This is because they both go on adventures to new places. I thought this was funny because they were real! This book is like the books I’ve read in the Magic Treehouse series. Smith called and congratulated them on the "lifelike reindeer decorations" they had on their front lawn. She parked her reindeer on the front lawn. My favorite part was when Sarah Christmas visited the Lambchop's house. Will he succeed and get Santa to change his mind? ![]() ![]() Stanley has to go visit Santa and convince him that the world is not all bad and most people are loving. He is planning on not coming to deliver presents this year. Everything is going fine until Christmas time is approaching and Stanley finds out that Santa is unhappy with the world because it is filled with violence and hatred. Stanley Lambchop is a 10-year old boy who lives with his parents and one brother. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Going down home with daddy![]() ![]() Momma encourages Lil Alan to sleep, but he can’t, worrying that he’s the only one who won’t have a suitable gift for the extended family’s anniversary celebration of “75 years of owning the land, purchased by a farmer and a teacher.” After they greet Granny and hug the relatives, Lil Alan sees his cousins preparing a song (“His Eye Is on the Sparrow”), a poem (Langston Hughes’s “Mother to Son”), or something handmade, for the celebration. During the drive, the protagonist, Lil Alan, a boy with brown skin, full lips, a flat-top haircut, glasses, and deep brown eyes, looks sleepily out at the reader while Sis sleeps with her head leaned back against the seat. Going Down Home with Daddy's back cover boldly announces, “Nothing is more important than family.” It's a palpable sentiment throughout the story.Ī Black family of four wakes before dawn to pack the car for a trip “down home” to Daddy’s family reunion, an event they surely attend regularly. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Coming Home by Alexa Land![]() ![]() Lindeman is also a standout on the basketball court. Hopefully, I can get that peak where I want it to be, especially coming into the (postseason) tournament,” Lindeman said. “I feel like at the beginning of the season, I started off slow, because of cold weather. Lindeman said this season has been a work in progress. “I’m definitely working on sprinting to that first hurdle and having enough confidence to run that,” Lindeman said about her 300 hurdles approach. In Saturday’s 300 hurdles, Lindeman got out fast and was never challenged. ![]() So, I’m coming in with a little more confidence this year, and I’m aiming for that podium.” “Last year, I had a little bit of an upset, coming in ninth and hitting that last hurdle. I want to make the podium,” Lindeman said. “I definitely want to get back down there (to the state meet) in both hurdles. ![]() Lindeman has set some high goals for this season. ![]() ![]() ![]() "Are we all just going to keep doing this until we die?" "Are we in hell?" the people of the portal ask themselves. ![]() An avalanche of images, details, and references accumulate to form a landscape that is post-sense, post-irony, post-everything. When existential threats-from climate change and economic precariousness to the rise of an unnamed dictator and an epidemic of loneliness-begin to loom, she posts her way deeper into the portal's void. She is overwhelmed by navigating the new language and etiquette of what she terms "the portal," where she grapples with an unshakable conviction that a vast chorus of voices is now dictating her thoughts. A book that asks: Is there life after the internet?Īs this urgent, genre-defying book opens, a woman who has recently been elevated to prominence for her social media posts travels around the world to meet her adoring fans. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The new and luxurious transatlantic liner Empress of Britain is on her eastward passage. ![]() And for Charlotte, something extraordinary is beginning to happen.Īs fifty years of secrets begin to unravel, shy, cautious Charlotte is coming alive in the shadow of a mystery-uncovering a shocking tale of wartime greed and treachery, and a vendetta of violence seemingly without end…. Now, amid shattering revelations about her family, and in the aftermath of a second savage crime, Charlotte finds herself at the center of a widening storm. ![]() But Charlotte has little time to mourn the loss of her beloved aunt and little patience when police quickly arrest a man Charlotte believes is innocent.įor Charlotte, a harrowing quest for answers begins-one that will take her into the shadows of the past…and into the life and secrets of the dead woman’s brother, famed poet and casualty of the Spanish Civil War, Tristram Abberley. This play is full of various characters who are responsible for making this story so peculiar, for example, the shy widower who spent all of her money on her lover, aware of the arriving poverty, yet incapable for getting rid the old habits of spending above her possibilities. Removal takes place in fall, symbolically displaying the time of the year when the cherry orchard is left with naked branches, empty and probably looking the worst. As the time passes by, a disorder in the family rises until they are forced to move out of their own home. The story begins in spring while the orchard is in full bloom and in its best appearance. Soon they were forced to sell the last thing that kept on connecting them with their aristocratic life- the old estate with cherry orchard. After the death of the head of this family, they started sinking down, without knowing or doing anything in order to prevent the fall. ![]() Adjusted to the wealthy lifestyle, they lost all of their money and kept on living without any knowledge, talent or experience on how to survive. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments You Slay Me by Katie MacAlister![]() ![]() ![]() The trouble isn't going to be finding it, it's going to be. "Sure, although I think I know where the dragon is. "You desire help finding your missing dragon?" he asked. ![]() We ate in a small cafe, then feeling pressured, I gave in to temptation and called Rene to see if he was free for a few hours. All right, we'll have a quick lunch, but it has to be fast. I laughed-which should have been worth some major karma points, because my life was anything but amusing-and patted the big black head that bobbed alongside me. "It's wasted on someone who doesn't have a heart," Jim snapped. "That plaintive note in your voice was particularly heartrending." I told my furry demon as we strolled toward the road. The problem was, logic didn't seem to be on speaking terms with me anymore. "You just had breakfast," I said absently, trying to think what would be the logical next step. Or-and this is a much better plan-you could take me to lunch and feed me." Or I could swing by the G & T and see if Ophelia and Perdita might be there." Or I could go straight to Drake's and try to sneak in. If he thought she was someone important, maybe she can shed a little light on the murder, or at least who might be likely to call up Bafamal. Not that he was going to give it to me if I just asked. I toyed with the thought of simply calling him up, but that would take the surprise out of me showing up on his doorstep demanding my aquamanile. "I am so in over my head," I said with a sigh as I wrote down the address. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Shola von reinhold![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() “Von Reinhold’s rich and glorious writing. From champagne theft and Black Modernisms to art sabotage, alchemy, and a lotus-eating proto-luxury communist cult, Mathilda’s “Escapes” through modes of aesthetic expression lead her to question the convoluted ways truth is made and obscured. The artists’ residency throws her deeper into a lattice of secrets and secret societies that takes hold of her aesthetic imagination. Her search brings her to a peculiar artists’ residency in Dun, a small European town in which Hermia was known to have lived during the '30s. After discovering a photograph of the forgotten Black modernist poet Hermia Druitt, who ran in the same circles as the Bright Young Things, Mathilda becomes transfixed and resolves to learn as much as she can about the mysterious figure. Solitary Mathilda has long harbored a conflicted enchantment bordering on rapture with the "Bright Young Things," the Bloomsbury Group, and their contemporaries of the '20s and '30s, and throughout her life her attempts at reinvention have mirrored their extravagance and artfulness. After a brief introduction, the story presents us with Susan Wheeler, a third-year medical student who works as a trainee at the Boston Memorial Hospital. In a genre ever-evolving alongside our technological progress, I think it would be interesting to take a step back and see where it all began. ![]() This privilege is generally reserved for modern genres, and today I would like to take a look at the novel which kicked off the idea of medical thrillers: Coma by Robin Cook, which by the way was adapted to film by Michael Crichton. Robin Cook Births the Medical Thriller GenreĮxamining the majority of literary genres, it can be fairly difficult to determine their actual point of origin, to pin-point a specific book by a known author which kicked off the whole affair. ![]() |
